Best Restaurants -(Vegetarian)
Ararat
(Restaurants - Vegetarian)
111 E North Loop Blvd
Austin TX 78751
512-419-1692
Description:
NORTH AUSTIN. Ararat may not stick to one Middle Eastern region in either its decor or its food, but don't let that distract you. The sensuous place is adorned with wall-hung Persian, Turkish, and Afghani rugs and features a lush patio out back, enlivened by occasional live music and belly dancing. The menu includes hummus and tabouli along with more unfamiliar dishes like sizzling lamb on flatbread with chile paste and tzatziki, and fried eggplant topped with maust museer (yogurt, garlic, and mint). The atmosphere and menu for Monday's vegetarian night are quite different but just as good.

Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse & Café
(Restaurants - Vegetarian)
1501 S 1st St
Austin TX 78704
512-416-1601
Description:
SOUTH AUSTIN. With its lively purple and lime green exterior, Bouldin Creek offers a perk before you even walk in the door. Inside, you'll find a bright, inviting space with ample room for studying, reading, or chatting with friends. Of course, a coffee house must have great java, and Bouldin Creek does, along with a tasty vegetarian menu and a good selection of teas, beers, and wines. Breakfast is served all day, and a cozy outdoor patio is terrific in warm weather. WiFi access is available.

Casa de Luz
(Restaurants - Vegetarian)
1701 Toomey Rd
Austin TX 78704
512-476-2535
Description:
BARTON SPRINGS DISTRICT. Wander among herb and flower gardens on your way to Casa de Luz's front door, and once inside, enjoy a macrobiotic vegan meal unlike any you've probably ever had. Place your order at the counter, and then pick up utensils, condiments, soup, and salad at the buffet on your way to one of several long communal tables. There's only one entree choice, so you may want to call ahead to see what's on the menu for the day. Sometimes it's Mexican or Guatemalan; sometimes it's sushi or pizza.

Mother's Cafe & Garden
(Restaurants - Vegetarian)
4215 Duval St
Austin TX 78751
512-451-3994
Description:
NORTH AUSTIN. Having reopened in October 2007 following a devastating fire, Mother's is getting back on its feet again, although without the charming enclosed garden room (new plans are in the works!). Even so, the food remains top-quality, much of it organic and all of it vegetarian or vegan. The most popular dishes are mushroom stroganoff, spinach lasagna, and fully-loaded bueno burgers. As you might expect, salads are excellent the house cashew-tamari dressing knocks them into the stratosphere. The menu also includes sandwiches, pastas, and several Tex-Mex options. There are even vegan desserts!

Romeo's
